ProMASS News Bureau: Sep 05, 2016: Teachers’ Day is being celebrated throughout the country today. Various programmmes in schools and colleges throughout the country are being organised in the honour of teachers who shape the lives of students and show them the path of success. The day is celebrated on the birthday of educationist and former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan since 1962.
President and Prime Minister have greeted the teachers on the day.
In his message, Pranab Mukherjee said, teachers’ day is an occasion to recognise the dedicated services of the teachers, who are engaged in building and strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of the children. He said, a sound education system is the bedrock of an enlightened society and inspired teachers are the building blocks of a good education system. President said, the teachers also need to imbibe technology and new methodologies to create modern and effective approaches to teaching and learning.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the country salutes the dedication and commitment of all teachers, whose role in nation building is paramount. Mr Modi paid tributes to Dr. Radhakrishnan and said, he was a scholar, statesman and a respected teacher who shaped many minds and served the country.
Teachers’ Day has been celebrated in Tripura also. Several programmes have been arranged to mark the birth anniversary of former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. In Agartala, a programme was organized and the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, State Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty and other dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister urged the Teachers to work hard for the betterment of students and appealed to students community to seek guidance from the teachers without any hesitation.
