ProMASS News Bureau: Agartala: Sep 12, 2016: An International seminar was organized in Agartala today relating to development of Kokbarok Language, the language of Tribal people of Tripura. Member of Parliament, Jitendra Chaudhury inaugurated the seminar. Along with a large number of Kokbarok speaking literary persons of the State, Prashanta Tripura, Buthup Tripura and Sushil Jibon Tripura from Bangladesh attended the Seminar.

In his inaugural speech, Chaudhury raised the demand to include Kokbarok in 8th Schedule. He said that he had already raised the demand thrice in the Parliament. Being dependent on Govt for development of Kokbarok cann’t be a good option, Kokbarok speaking communities must take initiatives, like arranging seminars, debate, Sahitya Sabha etc through out the year, he opined. Cultural and linguistic interaction is essential in developing the language, he added. Focusing on development of Kokbarok in Bangladesh, he informed, Bangla Govt has decided to introduce Kokbarok in school level from 2017.
