ProMASS News Bureau: Sep 25, 2016: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conferred ‘Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Krishi Puraskar’ to progressive farmers of the State for their contributions in innovative agricultural practices.
Today, the zonal level award giving ceremony was organized by ICAR-ATARI, Meghalaya at College of Fisheries at Lembucherra near Agartala. From Zone VII comprising of the eastern states of Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya, a small farmer Biswajit Majumder from Sabroom, Tripura has been awarded. He is a successful agri-enterpreneur and has established a farmer’s club in his village. He encouraged fellow farmers to establish commercial broiler farms, fish farms and dairy farms. He has been serving as an important link between the local farmers and the ICAR and KVK scientists. The award carries Rs. 50,000 in cash, citation and certificate.
On the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, ICAR instituted the ‘Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Krishi Puruskar’ to recognize the contribution of small and marginal farmers to innovative practices in agriculture and allied disciplines.
ICAR officials said, every year on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, the award will be conferred on to the progressive farmers Zone wise. In the country, total eleven zones have been created and North East consists of two zones i.e. zone six and zone seven. Zone seven comprises Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya and Zone 6 consists of Assam, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
