Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya has urged upon parents to treat their children equally and not to discriminate the girl child. Speaking at the annual Deepawali Mela organized by Lions and Leo clubs of Dimapur, at Lions Centre, Acharya said, equal opportunity should be given to daughters, AIR Kohima reported.
Citing Centre’s initiative to help raise female child under the scheme, ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP), the Governor urged the gathering to come out from the mindset of neglecting female child and help support the government in the success of the scheme.
Notably, BBBP is a Government of India scheme that aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services meant for women. The scheme- a joint initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Human Resource Development-was launched with an initial corpus of 100 crore rupees.
