Agartala, Nov 22, 2016: Results of by-polls held in Barjala and Khowai Assembly constituencies in Tripura are out now. Ruling CPI-M party has emerged victorious in both the seats.
In Barjala CPI-M secured 15,769 votes while BJP and TMC bagged 12,395 and 5692 votes respectively. Congress managed just 1063 votes. CPI-M garnered 24810 votes in Khowai Assembly constituency. In Khowai TMC bagged 8716 votes, BJP got 2528 votes and Congress secured 696 votes. CPI-M gained leads from the 1st round and consolidated the lead in subsequent rounds.
Notably, in last Assembly election, Congress won the Barjala Seat by a slender margin. By-poll in this constituency held as seating Congress Candidate defected to CPI-M. By winning Barjala seat, total strength of CPI-M in 60-seat Tripura Assembly has gone up to 51.
Khowai seat was earlier held by CPI-M. By-poll in Khowai held due to death of its incumbent MLA.
