Jan 29, 2017: Canada extends welcome to immigrants while USA imposes a ban. In a tweet Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada.”
Notably, US President Donald Trump put a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the United States and temporarily barred travelers from the seven countries. Despite assurance from Trudeau, Canadian airlines stated they would turn back US-bound passengers from the seven countries to comply with immigration ban imposed by USA Government. According to media reports, Canadian airlines will give full refunds to anyone affected by the US executive order.

Confusion surfaced as some Canadians possess dual citizenship. Clarification to this was issued by concerned USA authority and stated that passengers submitting citizenship while entering USA is important, not the country where they born. Henceforth, the ban did not apply to citizens holding dual citizenship and have passport from countries other than the mentioned seven countries.
