Mar 04, 2017: After Congress and Trinamool Congress, it was turn for BJP and expectedly BJP organized a mass civil disobedience programme all over the State today.
While both Congress and Trinamool Congress staged the agitation with reference to State and national issues, BJP today held the demonstration on local Party related issue – demanding CBI inquiry into death of BJP’s Yuva Morcha leader Chan Mohan Tripura. Compared to two other disobedience movement, BJP’s movement was much more vibrant, said a Political observer.
Today’s mass disobedience movement was held across 62 places in the State. Around 42 thousand supporters of BJP were arrested and later released, claimed a BJP leader. However, Police sources put the number at 36,600. It is alleged, Police has lathi-charged at several places and CPIM cadres have pelted stones at agitators in which total 112 BJP supporters were injured.
The slain Chan Mohan Tripura was an elected member of Dalapati Village Council in Gandachhera under Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and a leader of youth wing of BJP. According to available information, on fateful December 26, 2016, the slain leader went to see a mentally challenged person, namely Biswada. Upon seeing Chan Mohan, Biswada suddenly went berserk and reportedly hit Chan Mohan fatally with a wooden stick. Police later arrested the accused.
However, BJP claimed that Chan Mohan Tripura had been killed by goons of CPIM and later on alleged that one of the CPIM MLAs was behind the murder and demanding CBI inquiry.
Some of the political observers opined, BJP has tactically raked up the issue as recently Gandachhera sub-division witnessed couple of tension ridden strikes by ethnic political parties. Focusing on ‘behind the scene’ objectives of today’s movement, Political observers said, It might be that raising the issue of death of its tribal leader would help BJP in winning hearts of tribal people, especially support of some of the tribal based parties. However, what is what remains unknown to common people till now.
