Mar 23, 2017: Trinamool Congress in Tripura today received a huge blow as Chairman of TMC Coordination Committee and former TMC President Ratan Chakraborty along with founder member Netai Chudhury deserted TMC today and joined BJP in Agartala. Along with these two veteran leaders, 15 other TMC State Committee members and around 150 TMC supporters also joined BJP today. Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain received the leaders and handed over party flag to them. Among others, BJP State President Biplab Deb, State Prabhari Sunil Deodhar and other leaders were also present in the join-in programme today.
It is expected that many more TMC supporters would join BJP in coming days reducing TMC into almost non-existing political entity.
Without naming anyone, Ratan Chakraborty fired verbal salvo at incumbent TMC leadership. Describing Mamata Banerjee, a spirited leader, Chakraborty said, Mamata handed over the Party baton to those people who are actually working as CPIM agent. Exuding confidence he said, saffron tsunami will oust CPIM in forthcoming 2018 Assembly Polls. Chakraborty also said, no Government since Independence except Modi-led NDA Government paid attention for the development and welfare of North Eastern Region.
With Congress already in deep slumber and TMC fast fading away, it appears that in forthcoming 2018 Assembly Polls, it will be a fight between CPIM and BJP and division of vote will not be a deciding factor in most of 60-seat Assembly constituencies.
