Apr 18. 2017: Launching a major offensive against BJP, Youth Wing of CPIM in Tripura today demanded arrest of president of Tripura BJP Biplab Deb. Earlier, it was reported that Biplab Deb made a comment on EVM and BJP’s symbol lotus which sparked a controversy in the Political arena.
Biplab Deb reportedly commented in a public meeting, for whichever Party you cast your votes, it will go in favour lotus symbol. Amidst EVM controversy in UP and Madhya Pradesh, Biplab Deb’s reported comment added fuel and handed over ammunition to ruling CPM.
Sources said, vice president of DYFI State Committee of Tripura today came down heavily on BJP and alleged the saffron party is conspiring to take away democratic rights of common people by adopting unfair means.
Referring to Biplab Deb’s comment DYFI leaders raised questions on efficacy and viability of EVMs in voting process. “Biplab Deb’s comment clearly suggests that EVMs can be manipulated”, alleged a DYFI leader.
“Biplab Deb’s comment was bound to stir political controversy. Very often CPIM allege that BJP is a threat to democracy and such alleged comment by Biplab Deb is expected to rejuvenate the rank and file of ruling Party”, opined Political analysts of Agartala.
Informed sources claimed, in the wake of CPIM supremo Yechury’s demand to include VVPAT with EVMs, it is likely that CPM and its frontal organizations will launch campaign against Biplab Deb’s comment in a big way.
Meanwhile, DYFI and Tribal Youth Federation (TYF) organized a mass demonstration across the State decrying squeezing MNREGA fund by the Central Government. Sources said, youths in ‘large’ numbers assembled at several places in the State and raised slogans against the Central Government and protested reduction in MNREGA fund. “A cut in MNREGA allocation will significantly affect the lives of poor people, especially tribal communities in the State”, claimed a TYF supporter.
