Apr 23, 2017: Attending the Niti Aayog governing body meeting today, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar urged the Central Government to maintain 90:10 funding pattern for all of the seven North Eastern States. He also appealed to simplify the Central Fund Sharing process for Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS).
On Agriculture, Manik Sarkar emphasized on doubling farmers’ income by adopting a multi facet plan aiming development of Agricultural sector. “We need to formulate a multipurpose Agri-plan for overall development of Agriculture which will ensure augmenting farmers’ earning by two times. Detailing upon how to improve performance of Agricultural sector, he stressed upon providing lands to landless farmers, expansion of irrigation facilities. “Supply of adequate quantity of fertilizers and seeds is important for Agricultural growth”, he said and emphasized on providing Agriculture related machinery at subsidized prices.
On Food Security Act, Chief Minister urged the Central Government to amend the Act so that food security is ensured for poor people of rural as well as urban areas. Stressing on simplification wage payment system under MNREGA, Manik Sarkar demanded to enhance the wages for MNREGA workers. He also demanded raising mandays to 200 from existing 100 mandays per job cards per year.
