Apr 26, 2017: The Union Government has focused bringing common people under the ambit of digital literacy as well as Government is intending to curb import of electronics and IT related devices by 2019, said Union MoS for Electronics and IT, PP Chaudhury today in Agartala. He dedicated the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Agartala to the nation today. State IT Minister Tapan Chakraborty, among others, was present in the programme. The NIELIT centre in Agartala is the 37th in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, PP Choudhury focused upon cyber security issue and said, syber security has become an important issue in modern era.
On role NIELIT, he said NIELIT will usher in a new scope of imparting skills and training in Tripura. Expressing satisfaction on NIELIT’s increasing footprint in Tripura, Choudhury said, this is a clear indication of huge demand for NIELIT’s courses in the State. He said, new campus of NIELIT will help in scaling up NIELIT’s activities in the State in a much bigger way.
The NIELIT was set up in 15 acre land which was acquired by the State Government. Referring to this, PP Choudhury hailed the State Government for its cooperation. Apart from inaugurating NIELIT’s Agartala Centre, Choudhury also inaugurated two more NIELIT centres at Kalacherra in South Tripura and Manughat in Dhalai district. NIELIT had two existing centres at Khumlung and Tripura University.
Notably, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated on April 24 North East’s largest IT Park in Agartala which will require IT educated youth and NIELIT has a significant role in promoting IT training to youth of the State.
