May 10, 2017: National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) organized a placement programme At Agartala,Tripura today and handed over Job Offer letters to trained and skilled candidates from Bru Tribes. These candidates were trained under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The event was graced by M Nagaraju (IAS, Principal secretary, Government of Tripura, Industries and commerce department (Skill Development). He distributed job offer letters to the first batch of 60 trainees of Bru Tribes at a placement programmes organized at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan today. The programme was organized by Valeur Fabtex Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Tripura Welfare Research Society (TWRS). Members of TWRS, Bru society leader Purniran Reang were also present.

NSDC has recently conducted a short term training programme for Bru Tribes of Tripura. The programme was a special component under PMKVY (2016-2020) of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. The project aims to train a total 300 candidates. Out this 180 candidates are undergoing training, whereas 120 candidates have already completed their trainings through its Training Partner Valuer Fabtex Pvt. Ltd. Companies like Triumph International (India) Pvt.Ltd., Quantum, a unit of KPR Mills Pvt. Ltd. (A Bombay Stock Exchange Listed Company) and Aathava Indian Pvt. Ltd. of Tamilnadu recruited trainees. Representatives of those organizations also had a brief discussion with the students to familiarize them with the career opportunities and work culture in their respective organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, M Nagaraju, Principal Secretary, Government of Tripura said, “Skill development plays an important role in empowering youth to earn a better livelihood. The training program under PMKVY is a noble initiative of the Government of India and we are happy to have partner NSDC to execute these programs in Tripura. We strongly believe that initiatives like these will provide new opportunities to the youth and strengthen the overall economy of the state”.
Commenting on the occasion, Manish Kumar (MD & CEO of NSDC) said, “We made a great effort towards ensuring 100% captive placement to the first batch of 120 candidates in order to make our pilot project on skill development of Bru Tribe a grand success. Each and every student trained in the pilot phase will work as an ambassador for us, who will motivate more students to take up skill training under Skill India Mission and move out of relief camps. In this endeavor, we want to formalize this event which will help mobilize Bru Tribe people from Tripura to other parts of country and help them earn a better livelihood.”
The NSDC is one of its kind, Public Private Partnership in India, under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. It aims to promote skill development by catalyzing creation of large, quality, for-profit vocational institutions. Till date NSDC has trained more than 11 million people through a network of 320 training providers and 40 Sector Skill Councils, operating 5000 training centers in more than 600 districts across the country.
