June 4, 2017: Five persons including two children died in Tripura due to incessant rains during last 24 hours. All the people died after their houses collapsed due to heavy downpour.
Sources said, heavy rainfall lashed out in Dhalai, Unakoti and North Tripura district during last 24 hours and three persons died in Dhalai district while one each died in Unakoti and North Tripura district during past 24 hours.
At West Lambuchhera under Kamalpur, three persons of a family – Kajol Kanya Debbarma (30) and her two minor girl children, Shanimala Debbarma and Nisha Debbarma – died after a landslide crushed their house while the male member of the family has been hospitalized with injuries.
Sources said, SDM of Kamalpur, Manik Lal Baidya announced an immediate interim relief of Rs 10,000 for each slain person to relative of the deceased. Total 80 families took shelter in relief camps in Kamalpur.
State BJP president today visited Debabarma’s house and offered condolences. He announced Rs 1 lakh compensation and Rs 10,000 for treatment of injured person of the family.
In Unakoti district, heavy rainfall claimed one life. Sources said, one Eiashin Ali died at Kandi Gram under Phulbari in Kailasahar died last night as his mud house collapsed after unprecedented rainfall. One woman – Anjan Das of Shantipur in Kumarghat received injuries and got hospitalized after her house collapsed.
According to Meteorology department, Kailasahar received incessant rain of volume 234.8mm which is a record rainfall in recent time. Many of the areas of Kailasahar and the district inundated after heavy downpour. Total 421 families have been evacuated to relief camps and 19 relief camps were opened.
At Balidhum village in North District, one woman – Khuku Rani Debbarma died on spot today morning as her mud house collapsed.
Normal life was badly hit due to rains. Though road connectivity has been restored, internet and mobile services are reportedly yet to be normalized. Administration has extended all possible help and assistance to handle the natural calamities in all the three affected districts.
