June 20, 2017: Member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Sushma Sahu who arrived on Monday in Agartala today made trip to Sonamura under Sepahijala District today to meet family members of a rape and murder victim. Earlier, on Monday evening also some of the victims’ family members met Sahu.
After returning from Sonamura, Sahu along with BJP Mahila Morcha leadership held a press conference in which she rapped the State Government for its ‘reluctance’ to prevent crime against women.
Speaking to media persons in Agartala, Sahu alleged, there are two incidences of crimes against women everyday in the State. Having said this, Sahu informed media persons that NCW had received nine complaints pertaining to rape and murder recently. She alleged the administration is shielding the culprits for political interests. Referring role of Police administration, Sahu said, Police ensure arrest of the culprits and trial of rape and murder cases should be put into fast track courts.
However, presence of BJP Mahila Morcha leader in her press conference raised many eye brows.
