June 25, 2017: Inaugurating a building complex of MSME-Development Institute and mini tool room at Indranagar ITI area in Agartala today, Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra sanctioned Rs 20-crore project for setting up a Technology Centre for micro and small scale enterprises in Tripura.
Addressing the entrepreneurs present in the inaugural programme, Mishra said, “MSMS-DI will impart training for different enterprising activities paving way for generating self employment”. He said, MSME-DI will help the youths of the State in setting up various micro and small scale industrial units to attain self sufficiency and it will also help to augment skills of existing entrepreneurs.
Among others, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Industry and Commerce Minister Tapan Chakraborty were also present in the inaugural programme. Micro and small scale entrepreneurs of the State participated in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said, India cannot overcome its basic problems without capitalizing youth force of the nation and he sought assistance of MSME Minister in addressing prevailing unemployment issue in the North Eastern States.
Referring to unemployment issue, Kalraj Mishra also announced that the Centre has sanctioned a Technology Centre for the State. The Centre will help in creating more job opportunities for the youths. He said, around Rs 20 crore will be released for this purpose soon.
Mishra also emphasized on addressing unemployment the problem utilizing Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) and similar other programmes. Highlighting benefits of the Technology Centre, Mishra said, it will cater various needs of bamboo and rubber related enterprising activities and will be helpful in expanding employment opportunity in the State.
“Tripura is enriched with quality bamboo and rubber plantations. Technology Centre will offer opportunities for Bamboo artisans to further enhance quality of their products. Rubber growers will also be able to derive benefits from this Centre and increase earnings”, he commented.
Stating that MSME-DI is capable to train youths on several other new ventures, he urged the State Government to emphasis development of coir sector and suggested to chalk out plans for establishing coir industry in the State.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar appreciated the efforts of the MSME ministry and stressed on better coordination between Centre and State for real development of the State. “Creating job opportunities alone will not be sufficient, along with self enterprising initiatives, it is essential to create market for the products of the Self Help Groups as well as augment purchasing power of common people”, Sarkar stated.
