June 28, 2017: On the face of IPFT’s proposed road and rail blockade, Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP), tribal wing of CPM, urged people to come forward and foil IPFT’s plan to block road and railways indefinitely from July 10. Addressing a press conference today in Agartala MP cum president of GMP Jitendra Choudhury alleged, Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT-NC) has announced blockade of National Highway-44 and the lone railway line of the state for an indefinite period from July 10 demanding a separate state to be carved out of areas falling under the TTAADC. He said, “Prime Minister’s Office is behind the plan”.
He said,, it appears a war has been declared against the people of Tripura and BJP is trying to promulgate Disturbed Area Act by resorting to violence against CPM supporters. “BJP is assaulting CPM workers and trying to create chaos. Their objective is to create an environment conducive to promulgation of Disturbed Area Act”, he commented.
Referring IPFT’s plan to block road and railway, Choudhury said the movement is undemocratic and illogical. If IPFT goes with road and rail blockade plans, people of the State will be put under tremendous pressure as supply of essential commodities will be badly affected due to blockade.
Focusing on Citizenship Amendment Bill-2016, Choudhury said, BJP leaders made tall claims on the Bill before Assam Polls for communal polarization. However, after polls were over, BJP had completely forgotten about the Bill. He said, every community has equal rights in secular India, however, BJP talks about specific community for taking political mileage.
Exuding confidence Choudhury said, people of Tripura will not such ‘malicious’ plan of BJP to be materialized. CPM is conducting campaign across the State to aware people about ill-natured plans and will further intensify the campaign.
