June 29, 2017: Tripura State unit of BJP today urged the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to exercise Constitutional power vested with the Central Government to protect democratic rights of the people of the State. Meanwhile, arty sources said, All India BJP secretary Rammadhav will arrive in State tomorrow in a two-day State visit.
After submitting a detailed report to Rajnath Singh on attacks on BJP leaders and supporters by ruling party cadres, State BJP president Biplab Deb said, dem ocratic ambience is under threat as law and order condition is fast deteriorating in the State everyday under Left regime. Deb was accompanied by State BJP observer Sunil Deodhar.
Party sources said, under prevailing violent condition, BJP urged the Union Minister to use the Constitutional power and save the democratic atmosphere in the State. Sources further added, Deb and Deodhar mentioned in details about violence unleashed by ruling party on BJP leaders and workers at several places including Belonia, Natunbazar etc.
It may be noted, earlier BJP raised demand for promulgation of Disturbed Area Act in the State. However, BJP now shifted its stance and sought Centre’s intervention using Constitutional conventions.
