Aug 05, 2017: Indefinite hunger strike by a group of SSA staffs in Agartala, Tripura is still continuing rejecting State Government’s appeal to withdraw the strike. On the fifth day of the ‘fast unto death’ agitation, five more SSA staffs had been admitted to hospital while around 26 were stated to be felling unwell.
The SSA agitators who had already got support from various quarters including political parties, also got a shot in the arms today even from the IPFT. The tribal party’s president NC Debbarma today met the agitators and like Congress and BJP leaders, NC Debbarma too extended solidarity and his party’s support to agitating employees.
The State Government, nevertheless, remained firm on its position saying that the Central Government should come with a Pan-India policy for regularization of services of employees under SSA, RMSA and MNREGA.
“The State Government is not considering the instances of Assam, Manipur and other States where State Governments regularized services of SSA. It would be prudent for the Government if it would constitute a committee to study Assam or Manipur model for regularization”, informed sources stated.
