August 09, 2017: Much waited Agartala-Akhaura international railway project has made a major step forward as issue of land procurement has been addressed and solved. Highly placed sources said, the State Government is all set to hand over required land to Railway authority within September. “Process to pay compensation to land owners will start from August 20 and will be completed within August 25”, sources said.
Agartala-Akhaura rail project could not take off due to issues relating to land procurement. After sustained effort by the State Government, all the issues came to its logical hand and State Government will hand over the land to railway for laying rail tracks.
Detailing about the land procurement, West District administration sources said, land procurement process for started from July 28 at Badarghat Tahashil. According to survey report, land spanning over 5 KM on the side of Tripura procured for this project. Estimated cost of laying rail tracks on the side of Tripura is Rs 580 crore.
Land procurement process completed without any major hiccup and people are happy with the role played by the State Government during the process of procurement, commented one Tapan Roy of Chari Para near Agartala.
