August 23: Aiming to extend health insurance coverage to expand, Tripura Government launched a special drive from August 5, 2017 and set a target of bringing more than seven people under the Bima coverage.
More people of the States will get the financial benefits under National Health Insurance project popularly known as Rashtiya Swasthiya Bima Yojana (RSBY). The State Government has initiated action to expand the coverage under the scheme and bring more families under RSBY. State Health Minister Badal Choudhury stated this today. Speaking to media persons, the Choudhury said, total 4 lakhs 81 thousand people were included up to 2016 under the scheme. After obtaining permission from the Central Government pertaining to expand the coverage, State Government has started inclusion of families who were earlier dropped.
“Immediately after obtaining the permission from the Union Government, the State Health Department started working on it from August 5, 2017. Families who could not be included during 2016 will be included in this round and it is expected that more than seven lakh families will be brought under the scheme”, Choudhury said.
Apart from families omitted in 2016, non-recipients of RSBY card will also get priority during this round, Choudhury said. While opening of generic counters at several hospitals will reduce the cost of treatment, the insurance scheme will further help the under privileged families to avail medical care and services.
Under the National Health Insurance, BPL families and people working in unorganized sectors would get financial benefits for health related issues.
