September 23, 2017: BJP central leadership may utilize its high-pitched campaign to create a wave for saffron party and bring noted campaigners in Tripura to woo the voters. According to a section of political analysts, it will not be unlikely that BJP will choose Agartala for its next National Executive Committee meeting to create right kind for ambiance for BJP. It will be interesting to note, how CPIM tackle BJP’s anticipated campaign blitz and CPIM’s chances in Assembly Poll will depend a lot on neutralizing BJP’s multi-star and powerful campaign mechanism.
True to say that political situation is fast becoming complex in Tripura with every passing day. Both the CPIM and BJP are waiting for Durga Puja session to be over. CPIM desperate to retain power is expected to fire from all cylinders against BJP. Having strong organization up to grass root, CPIM is banking on its year long association with voters.
On the other hand, known for its mega campaign style, BJP has made remarkable foray, at least apparently, into many red bastions. With merger of Trinamool Congress, BJP has managed to ensure its presence at many places without much effort. However, at this point, CPIM has clear cut advantage over BJP due to its time tested organizational capacity.
The Political scenario may change after puja session is over. Apart from BJP All India president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many more leaders are expected to visit Tripura. BJP, like Leftists, are stressing on creating strong micro level organization and already a host of leaders attended in meetings with booth level workers. All India leaders attending booth level meeting and sharing organizational tips is rare scene in Tripura. Earlier, Star campaigners of Congress and Trinamool Congress would hold couple of mass rally at Agartala or other town areas. However, BJP leaders are going to the ground level.
So far no national level leader of CPIM has visited State, even though more than 50 leaders and Union Ministers of BJP have already held meeting at different parts of the State.
Considering bJP’s unexpected campaign style to create a wave in favour of the Party, there is a possibility that BJP will hold its next National executive committee meeting in Tripura. However, BJP leadership is yet to make any comment on this. If the possibility turns out to a reality, CPIM will have to serious ponder over its campaign style to stop major swing of voters in favour of BJP.
Taking all the factors into consideration, a good number of Political analysts believe that campaign blitz along will not be sufficient, BJP needs to ensure promulgation of President’s Rule or intensive Centre’s intervention for a victory. And, from emerging situation and letter written by State BJP president Biplab Deb to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, it seems Centre’s intervention of some kind is not a distant possibility.
