September 24, 2017: Demanding speedy trial, Agartala Press Club managing committee today demanded formation of Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe into gruesome murder of reporter Shantanu Bhaowmik on September 24 at Mandai in West Tripura. A delegation of Agartala Press Club managing committee today met the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and placed the demand. Delegates also demanded trial in ‘fast court’. Condemning the murder, Chief Minister said State Government would explore the demand and discuss with the administration about formation of SIT.
Meanwhile, Tripura Congress unit today condemned the killing of young reporter Shantanu Bhowmik. Addressing a press conference today in Agartala, Congress leader cum MLA Gopal Roy demanded to form a Commission headed by a sitting Judge of Tripura High Court to investigate the murder case.
Members of nine different organizations of Tripura journalists today went to deceased Shantanu’s residence and offered condolences to bereaved family members. Reiterating demand for CBI inquiry, representatives of nine organizations stated journalists will lit candles daily in Agartala to press for the demand.
