Agartala: Tripura has shifted its focus towards the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector as a new engine of employment by signing three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). The agreements seek to equip young people with industry-relevant financial skills and prepare them for emerging career opportunities in India’s expanding financial services sector.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the partnership marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s efforts to diversify employment opportunities beyond traditional sectors. He said financial services have become one of the fastest-growing industries in the country and offer immense potential for the state’s educated youth.
The agreements were signed between the Government of Tripura and the NSE in collaboration with the State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD), the Directorate of Skill Development and the Directorate of Industries and Commerce.
Government Targets New-Age Employment
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Saha said India is witnessing rapid economic growth and the financial services sector is expanding alongside it. He noted that the country’s investment culture has changed significantly over the past few years.
He said the state government wants Tripura’s youth to become active participants in this transformation instead of remaining spectators.
“The stage is now set for our youth to enter the arena of financial services,” the Chief Minister said while highlighting the growing opportunities in capital markets and investment services.
According to him, employment in financial services requires knowledge rather than large industrial infrastructure.
A trained professional can work with a laptop, internet connectivity and recognised certification. This makes the sector particularly suitable for a geographically smaller state like Tripura.
Specialised BFSI Training Planned
Under the partnership, the Directorate of Skill Development and the NSE will jointly develop specialised training programmes covering capital markets, mutual funds, insurance, investor awareness and investment advisory services.
The NSE will bear the cost of these training programmes, while the state government will provide training venues and administrative support.
Officials expect the initiative to create a pipeline of skilled professionals who can pursue careers with banks, brokerage firms, mutual fund companies, insurance firms, fintech enterprises and financial advisory organisations.
The government also plans to develop a network of certified master trainers within Tripura to sustain the programme over the long term.
Financial Skills to Improve Employability
Dr Manik Saha said financial literacy should not remain limited to investor awareness alone. It should also become an employment-oriented skill that helps young people secure better careers.
He said India has one of the world’s youngest investor populations, with the median investor age around 33 years. Women are also joining the investment ecosystem in increasing numbers.

The Chief Minister noted that the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 has already identified financial services as one of the future-ready skill sectors. The new partnership aligns with that national vision by preparing Tripura’s youth for evolving job markets.
Building a Knowledge-Based Economy
The Chief Minister said Tripura has doubled its Gross State Domestic Product during the past six years and its per capita income now matches the national average.
He stressed that sustaining this momentum requires skilled human resources, entrepreneurship and greater participation in the formal financial system.
The collaboration with the NSE aims to strengthen financial literacy, investor awareness and securities market education while creating a workforce capable of supporting India’s growing capital market ecosystem.
Saha also said the initiative complements the state’s ongoing efforts to modernise Industrial Training Institutes, establish foreign language schools and expand industry-oriented skill development programmes.
SIPARD to Play a Key Role
The State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD) will play a central role in implementing the initiative.
The institute has become one of the first government training institutions in India to establish a strategic partnership with the NSE. It will help create certified trainers who will spread financial education among government officials, grassroots functionaries, students and aspiring entrepreneurs across Tripura.
The government believes this institutional framework will ensure the long-term sustainability of the programme and widen its outreach throughout the state.
Part of a Larger Economic Strategy
The Chief Minister linked the initiative with Tripura’s broader investment and economic reforms. He said investor confidence in the state has grown steadily following recent business reforms and digital governance initiatives.
He referred to the success of the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, where investment proposals worth over โน1.29 lakh crore were signed across multiple sectors. According to him, a skilled financial workforce will support the implementation of these investment proposals while strengthening the state’s emerging business ecosystem.
Dr Saha urged students, entrepreneurs and government officials to take full advantage of the partnership with the NSE.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would create new employment opportunities, improve financial literacy and position Tripura as an emerging hub for financial services in Northeast India.
