The Gomati District in Tripura has been earmarked as one among the 11 districts across India to set up the world’s largest grain storage facility. This significant development was revealed by Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha during an event organized by the Cooperative Department and Tripura State Cooperative Union on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Saha disclosed that Khilpara, situated in the Gomati district, has been identified as the site for establishing this colossal grain storage initiative. With an allocated budget of Rs 1.86 crore, the state is gearing up for the implementation of this pioneering project.

Dr. Saha emphasized the pivotal role of cooperative societies in driving progress within rural areas. Speaking at the 70th Cooperative Week observance at Agartala Town Hall today, he stressed that the vision of ‘Ek Tripura Shrestha Tripura, Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ (One Prosperous Tripura, One Prosperous India) hinges on the economic prosperity of rural regions.

The Chief Minister highlighted the state government’s commitment to modernizing 268 LAMPs (Large-sized Multipurpose Cooperatives) and PACs (Primary Agricultural Credit Societies) through computerization. He underscored the necessity of heightened awareness to propel the cooperative sector forward.

“In the next five years, the Department of Co-operation has charted out special initiatives for the advancement of the cooperative sector,” Dr. Saha stated, emphasizing the need for sincerity, transparency, and honesty among stakeholders associated with LAMPs, PACs, and the Cooperative Movement for the success of this week’s celebration.

Furthermore, Dr. Saha praised the Union Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah’s leadership, citing initiatives aimed at eradicating poverty, combating corruption, addressing extremism, and fostering good governance through the strategic utilization of new technologies.

The event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including Cooperatives Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, Tripura State Cooperative Union Chairman MLA Mailafru Mog, and others.

Cooperative Department sources said, this move to establish the world’s largest grain storage facility and the concerted efforts to fortify the cooperative sector mark significant milestones in Tripura’s journey towards rural economic development.
