Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha ordered a probe into the mysterious deaths of three people of the same family at Thakurpara in Melaghar of Sepahijala district.

The Chief Minister in a social media post expressed shock over this shocking incident and passed an instruction to the District Magistrate, Sepahijala for conducting a probe and submitting the report.

Soon after the incident came to light on Friday, the administrative officials of Sonamura rushed to the spot. Samples were also been collected.

The three persons- Chintaharan Paul (75), his wife Prativa Paul (60) and their daughter Manika Paul (20) were found dead inside the living room.

The preliminary report suggests that it was an incident of suicide and it had no connection with any financial crisis.

Chintaharan Paul is an clay artist. Besides, he was receiving Old Age Pension Allowance. His wife was engaged in the Mid Day Meal scheme in a nearby school. Manika, the daughter studied in a college but was unable to complete her studies owing to her disease which ultimately seriously affected her mobility.

According to the neighbours, there was no sign of any financial distress. Chintaharan, a well known person in the locality did not even borrow money from others.

Earlier, Opposition Leader of the Tripura State Assembly Animesh Debbarma visited the deceased family’s residence.  

Speaking to the media at the spot in Melaghar, Debbarma demanded a proper inquiry to find the reason that caused the death of three members of a family.

“Even if it is a suicide and not committed due to financial issues, it is necessary to uncover the truth”, Debbarma said. 

He also urged the Chief Minister to look into the matter and initiate a probe.
