In a distressing incident, unidentified miscreants vandalized a farmer's field in the darkness of night. The incident took place in Suryakanta Para, Rani Pukur under Gandacherra subdivision of Dhalai district in Tripura.
According to the details of the incident, on Friday night, miscreants cut down the roots of about 400 ridge gourd and other vegetable plants in the agricultural field of farmer Ratan Roy, a resident of Suryakanta Para. On Saturday morning, a neighboring farmer witnessed the incident and informed Ratan Roy.
Upon receiving the news, farmer Ratan Roy rushed to the field and found that the roots of all the plants in his crop field had been cut down. Unable to bear the shock, he broke down in tears at the sight.
In the meantime, the Gandacherra police station was informed. The police rushed to the spot and started investigating the incident.
Talking about the incident, farmer Ratan Roy said that he had suffered a crop loss of about two and a half to three lakh rupees due to this incident. He also said he depends on agriculture to support his family.
In view of the loss of crops, he has become helpless. He is unable to think of how he will meet the education expenses of his children and how he will run his family.
He was hoping to sell the ridge gourds in the market and celebrate Chaitra Sankranti and Pahela Baishakh with his family. But this incident has ruined everything for him.
Being helpless, he appealed to the Agriculture Officer to help him in this difficult time so that he can resume farming.
It remains to be seen whether the Agriculture Department will stand by the helpless Ratan Roy, as his entire family is looking up to them. However, in the run up to the Lok Sabha Polls, the incident sparked tension and resentment among the local farmers.
