Tripura LoP Jitendra Choudhury criticizes BJP govt for 51,000+ unfilled jobs and alleged recruitment scams.

Agartala, May 4, 2025 – In a scathing critique of the BJP-led Tripura government, CPIM Politburo member and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Choudhury has accused the administration of failing to address over 51,000 vacant government posts across various departments.

His remarks come in the wake of a recent job offer letter distribution ceremony in Agartala, where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha handed out appointment letters to 228 government teachers.

Choudhury described the event as “a drop of water in the desert,” underscoring the severity of the staffing crisis in Tripura.

During the job offer letter distribution to teachers event, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha celebrated the BJP-led government’s achievement of providing 17,554 jobs through transparent recruitment policy by March 2025.

However, Choudhury said, job to 228 teachers is ‘a drop of water in the desert’

He contradict the BJP’s claims of transparent recruitment and highlighted alleged irregularities, including the appointment of non-residents and politically connected individuals to government roles.
However, Choudhury dismissed these claims, asserting that the number of jobs created pales in comparison to the scale of vacancies.

‘Over 51000 posts remain vacant’

According to Choudhury, data submitted by state ministers in response to questions raised by CPIM MLAs in the Tripura State Assembly reveals that over 51,000 posts remain vacant across multiple departments.

“These figures are not speculative,” he emphasized. “They are based on written replies from the ministers themselves.”

The opposition leader further noted that this number excludes data from 18 to 19 departments that have yet to provide vacancy details, suggesting the actual figure could be even higher.

“This gives a clear picture of the severe staffing shortage crippling key departments in Tripura,” Choudhury said.

Education Sector in Crisis: 20,000+ Teaching Posts Vacant

Choudhury singled out the Education Department, claiming that over 20,000 teaching positions remain unfilled. The recent distribution of 228 teaching job offers, he argued, does little to address this massive shortfall. The government is celebrating small steps while ignoring the larger crisis, he argued, accusing the BJP of neglecting the state’s education system.

The staffing shortage in education has raised concerns among parents, students, and educators, who fear that understaffed schools could compromise the quality of learning in Tripura.

Allegations of Recruitment Irregularities

In addition to the vacancy crisis, Choudhury raised allegations of corruption and favoritism in the recruitment process.

He questioned how youths from West Bengal, who are not permanent residents of Tripura, were able to obtain Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificates (PRTC) and secure Group D posts. He, however, did not provide specific evidence.

Choudhury also pointed to a recent incident involving a local governance body member in the Kamalpur sub division in Dhalai District of Tripura who was allegedly appointed to the jail police department under questionable circumstances.

“A video circulating on social media shows a BJP Panchayat Samiti member suddenly appointed to the jail police force,” he said.

“No one knows when she appeared for an interview or how she qualified.”
Such incidents, according to Choudhury, highlight “widespread and unchecked irregularities” in Tripura’s recruitment process.
