Agartala (Tripura) Jul 20: Recent decision of the Tripura Government to recruit over 1600 school teachers has sparked a glimmer of hope among the school students and guardians as well as among the qualified job aspirants.
With over 900 recruitment for PGT posts, recruitment decision of the State cabinet is expected to lessen the subject teacher crisis, but considering the present situation, more such recruitment is necessary.
Notably, what considered as a crucial move to address the acute shortage of subject teachers across Tripura, the state Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 1,615 teachers under the School Education Department on July 15.
This long-awaited decision comes against the backdrop of growing concerns over the lack of qualified teachers in government schools, which had earlier led to student protests in several parts of the state.
Briefing the media about the Cabinet decisions at the Secretariat, Tourism and Cabinet Spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury stated on July 15 that to mitigate the shortage of teachers, especially in key subjects, the Council of Ministers of the State gave nod to recruitment of teachers for the secondary and higher secondary levels.
In a social media post, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha exuded confidence that the recruitment drive will give a boost to school education sector.

“The government has decided to recruit 915 Postgraduate Teachers (PGTs) for Classes XI and XII, and 700 Graduate Teachers for Classes IX and X”, Chowdhury said.
The PGT recruitment will cover multiple subjects including English (70), Kokborok (75), Bengali (50), History (71), Political Science (65), Philosophy (6), Geography (80), Sanskrit (20), Economics (80), Physics (55), Chemistry (59), Biology (45), Mathematics (50), Commerce (33), Sociology (70), and Psychology (86).
Eligible candidates must have a postgraduate degree with a minimum of 50% marks along with a B.Ed. qualification.
All appointments will be made on a fixed-pay basis, and the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) will conduct the recruitment process.

The current initiative, the Minister said, is aimed at restoring normalcy and ensuring that students no longer have to suffer due to academic disruptions.
Apart from teacher recruitment, the Cabinet also approved the filling of 37 academic and administrative posts in the National Law University, Tripura, under the Higher Education Department.
These include positions such as Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Deputy Registrar, and Assistant Registrar. The university will conduct its own recruitment process.
Additionally, six Medical Officers (Dental) will be recruited through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) under the Health and Family Welfare Department to strengthen healthcare services in the state.
Sources close to the School Education department claimed, the government’s latest decisions reflect its commitment to improving both the education and healthcare sectors, while also responding to the demands of students and the broader public for better infrastructure and service delivery.

Meanwhile, guardians of Umakanta and Shishu Vihar school students in Agartala expressed hope with a caution regarding the cabinet teachers’ recruitment decision. Speaking to the media today (July 20), they welcomed the decision, however pointed out that more such recruitment decisions are required to minimize the shortage.
“With steady increase in students, we hope that the incumbent government will continue teachers’ recruitment alongwith augmenting infrastructural facilities”, one of the guardians commented in Agartala when asked about the recruitment issue.
