After formulation of Tripura Agar Policy, to promote the Agar business in Tripura, plans are afoot to set up a Agar Trade Centre in North Tripura.
Notably, Tripura Government is aggressively promoting Agar business and initiated several steps including releasing ‘Agar Policy 2021′ in September last year and providing licenses to Agar tree growers. As a result of sustained efforts to promote Agar Business, a Laos based company visited Tripura in the month of May, 2022.

Sources said, over 50 lakh Agar trees are available in Tripura at present and the Tripura government is eyeing building a Rs. 2000-crore business in the Agar sector in the next few years. The ‘Tripura Agar Wood Policy 2021′, proposes to double the area under Agarwood plantation by 2025.

According to industry experts, Agarwood sector of Tripura has huge investment potentiality and would generate earning opportunities to large number of youths.
In line with the State Government’s initiative, the Forest department of the State has decided to open an Agar Trade Centre in the North Tripura district to boost up Agar trading.
Addressing a press meeting in Agartala on Saturday, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) K S Shetty reiterated Agar is an important forest-based financial resource of the State. To promote and expand the Agar business, the Forest department has planned to set up an Agar Trade Centre at Kadamtala in the North Tripura district.
Notably, Kadamtala area is famous for Agar cultivation in Tripura.
KS Shetty also said there is a huge prospect to earn revenues using the forest resources and the Forest department is working to tap the potential.
