Tripura News: CM launches Tripura Agar Policy 2021

Tripura is eyeing big to make a mark in incense industry through Agarwood and Agarbatti. Both of the sectors are witnessing vibrancy now as several the State and Central Governments started several initiatives  like new ‘Tripura Agar Policy 2021.

In an attempt to explore the market opportunities, a two-day long ‘Buyer & Seller meet on Agarwood of Tripura’ was organized at a hotel in Agartala on Tuesday in which Union Minister for Industry and Commerce Piyush Goyal virtually attended. Besides, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Forest Minister NC Debbarma, Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, TIDC Chairman Tinku Roy and top level Officials were present. Agar growers of Tripura and producers as well as buyers of other states and abroad attended the Meet.

Speaking on the occasion, Piyush Goyal said Agarwood sector in the state of Tripura has the capacity to go beyond the doubling of farmers’ income in the state.

Goyal said, “Once the Union Ministry completes accessing the status of Agarwoods in Tripura, this can go long way towards grabbing the international market. As the Prime Minister NarendraModi had dreamt of doubling farmers’ income, I believe this agarwood sector of Tripura can not only double the farmers’ income but it can go beyond.”

Meanwhile, Goyal said imposition of import restrictions on agarbatti has helped in promoting domestic manufacturing of these incense sticks at large scale. He said, “Both the agarwood and agarbatti manufacturing can also generate employment opportunities in Tripura at large.”

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had chaired the meet and held series of discussion with the buyers and sellers to find out the feasibility of growing Agarwood sector in Tripura.

Later, Deb wrote in his FB post, “Launched the "Tripura Agar Policy 2021" today (September 21). I am thankful to Hon'ble Union Minster Shri Piyush Goyal Ji for attending this event virtually & ensuring us all the support from the central govt. to promote Agarwood trade at the global level.

We are committed to work hard and make Agartala the world capital of agarwood products as envisioned by Hon'ble Union Minister Shri. Piyush Goyal Ji in today's Buyer and Seller Meet on the Agarwood Products.

Much gratitude to Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji for directing all the concerned central ministries & departments to expedite our agarwood project. It is because of his foresightedness that today we have been able to bring our project to such a big level in such a short time.

Agartala gets its name from Agar tree, therefore it is our duty as well as privilege to promote the consumption of agarwood products on a global level under the able leadership of Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji.”
