Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has negated the possibility of electoral alliance with Congress in forthcoming Assam State Assembly polls. However, AGP may consider forming alliance with BJP if rational proposals come up from BJP. Former CM of Assam and veteran leader of AGP, Prafulla Kumar Mahanto said this in New Delhi on Feb 7. He further added, AGP was formed as an alternative to Congress Part. Though AGP is exploring possibilities of forming Poll alliance with other regional parties, Mahanto said, no talks have been held with BJP to this end so far. Notably, Mahanto met BJP veteran leader L K Advani in New Delhi on Feb 5.
Meanwhile, former J&K CM and Congress Leader Ghulam Navi Azad fired salvos against Modi Govt. He said, development in NER have been stalled since Modi-led Govt assumed power. Azar was addressing a conference of local district party leaders in Silchar on Feb 7. Hailing Gagoi Govt, he said, peace and tranquility improved during last 15 years under leadership of Tarun Gagoi. He expressed hope that Congress will storm back to power for the 4th time.
