Union Sports minister and Assam state BJP Chief Sarbanand Sonowal has said that the party is ready to form alliance with regional and indigenous parties except AIUDF and Congress. Talking to media persons in Guwahati yesterday, Mr Sonowal said talks are on with regional forces for alliance ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly polls.
He said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is trying to gain powers again with the help of AIUDF. On being asked that Mr Gogoi has ruled out of any understanding with the AIUDF, Mr Sonowal said that the Chief Minister is frequently changing his statements on this issue. Assembly polls in Assam will be held this year.
Meanwhile, Assam police has said that operation against terrorist group NDFB-Songbijit faction is in the final stage. Talking to media persons in Kokrajhar yesterday, Inspector General of Police, LR Bishnoi said that top leaders of the outfit are hiding in dense forest of Indo-Bhutan border.
Mr. Bishoi said, 21 militants of the outfit were gunned down and 256 have been arrested by the security forces last year. This outfit was involved in killing over 80 civilians in Assam in 2014 and after that security forces intensified operation against it. Mr. Bishnoi also said that police are keeping a close watch on jehadi elements that are trying to get foothold in Lower Assam.
