Agartala, October 31, 2019: Bru (Reang) refugees camped in North Tripura blocked Dasda-Anandabazar road today in which around 3500 refugees from seven relief camps took part. Agitators were protesting against suspension of ration supply since October 1 last. Displaced Reang refugees were demanding immediate resumption of ration supply and cash-dole while their repatriation from Tripura to Mizoram is undergoing.
“We want food, we are hungry. First give us food, then talk about repatriation”, agitators said and added, the road will continue until administration accepts demand for food. General Secretary of MBDPF Bruno Msha said, severe food crisis is prevailing in the relief camps leaving inmates in hunger. Agitators also alleged that one two-year old baby died as its mother was suffering from serious mal-nutrition due to food crisis and was unable to feed the baby mother’s milk. However, doctor’s report mentioned that the baby died for unknown fiver.
SDM of Kanchanpur (in North Tripura District) Abhedananda Baidya and Additional SP H P Darlong along with SDPO and large contingent of security personnel reached the spot. However, agitating Bru refugees kept on demanding written assurance for resumption of food supply. But the administration did not agree and impasse continued.
