The Centre today promised to look into the purported confession of a Manipur police commando of killing an unarmed suspected insurgent in 2009 in an alleged fake encounter. Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said the Centre has taken cognizance of the reports on the purported confession. Manipur police head constable Herojit Singh had reportedly confessed that he shot Chungkham Sanjit Meitei, a suspected member of the insurgent group People’s Liberation Army in Imphal in 2009. The constable has reportedly accepted that Meitei was unarmed and that he had allegedly carried out the action on the orders of his superior.
