July 17, 2018: State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath has inaugurated three-day long Children’s Film Festival at Nazrul Kalalhestra in Agartala today. State ICA in association with Children’s Film Society of India under I&B Ministry has organized the festival and will continue till July 19. Total 10 films – in Bengali, Hindi and English – will be screened at auditorium of Nazrul Kalakhestra and Rupashi Cinema Hall. As part of the festival, three-day workshop on issues relating to film-making will be held for school children.
Inaugurating the festival, Ratan Lal Nath said, Children’s Film Festival aims at establishing children’s right to entertainment and it is wonderful to note that the organizers have picked 10 films for children considering the upbeat moods of children immediately after the World Cup Football tournament.
The Minister also said, “History of Cinema in our country dates back to 100 years – innumerable films were made in several languages. Cinema has overwhelming impact on social life, pity that less number of children’s films were produced in the country”. Underscoring impact of film on society, Nath mentioned about works of film legendry Satyajit Roy and other eminent film-makers. “Such film festival is essential for developing healthy mind and mentality among the children”, he said. He also urged to hold Children’s film festivals in sub-division and block levels for which Government will extend co-operation.
Among others, chairperson of Tripura Children’s safety rights commission Nilima Ghosh and official of Children’s Film Society of India Rakesh Goyel also discussed about role of children’s film festival in providing entertainment to children.
Detailing about children’s participation in the film festival, director of ICA, Biswasri B said, around five thousand students of 52 schools will enjoy the three-day festival and total 60 students of 12 schools will take part in three-day workshop. She assured that ICA department is contemplating to conduct such festivals in districts.
