Agartala (Tripura) Jun 11: A chilling murder case of a youth has stunned residents of Tripura after a decomposed body of a youth was recovered from deep freezer at a shop in Gandachhara under the Dhalai district of Tripura. The decaying body, stuffed inside a trolley bag and concealed in a freezer with his hands bound, speaks a lot about the brutality of the crime which appears linked to a love triangle.
The decomposed body of a 24-year-old man, missing from Agartala’s Indranagar area, was discovered on Wednesday hidden inside a deep freezer at a shop in Narayanpur under Dhalai district’s Gandacherra subdivision.
The deceased has been identified as Shariful Islam, an electrician working under the Smart City mission. He had reportedly gone missing four days ago. Concerned about his sudden disappearance, Shariful’s family suspected abduction and had lodged a formal complaint at the local police station.
The investigation saw a breakthrough after locals in Indranagar detained a suspect, Dr. Dibakar Saha, on Monday. Saha had allegedly contacted Shariful on Sunday night under the guise of giving him a present. This led authorities to consider him a prime suspect in the case.
Police officials revealed that Dibakar, originally from Gandacherra but currently residing in Agartala, confessed during questioning and directed the police to a small betel shop in Gandacherra.
The shop, owned by his father Dipak Saha, a local schoolteacher, became the center of the probe. Shariful’s body was found stuffed into a trolley bag and hidden in a freezer, with his hands bound—confirming the horrific nature of the crime.

A team of police personnel, accompanied by forensic experts, inspected the scene and subsequently sent the body to Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Hospital for an autopsy.
Preliminary findings suggest that the murder might be linked to a complex love triangle. Shariful was allegedly in a relationship for over a year and a half with Dibakar’s cousin, a resident of Chandrapur. However, the girl’s family disapproved of the relationship due to religious differences. Matters became even more tangled as Dibakar himself was reportedly infatuated with the same woman.
The gruesome murder has triggered widespread anger and fear among the residents of Gandacherra, who remain shaken by the brutality of the act.

Addressing the media, West Tripura District Superintendent of Police, Dr. Kiran Kumar K, confirmed that six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the crime. Those arrested include:
- Dr. Dibakar Saha (28) – the primary accused
- Dipak Saha (52) – Dibakar’s father and the shop owner
- Debika Saha (48) – Dibakar’s mother
- Animesh Yadav (24)
- Joydip Das (28)
- Nabanita Das (25)
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests as the probe continues. The murder is currently being treated as a planned and deliberate act, with elements of romance, betrayal, and family resistance emerging as possible motives.
Police stated that continued forensic examinations and further interrogations will be crucial in uncovering the full chain of events leading to this horrific killing.
