In Manipur, polling has started from 8 am today for the election of 18 municipal councils and eight nagar panchayats in four valley districts of the state. AIR correspondent reports, voters in large numbers are seen standing in queue in front of the polling stations waiting their turn to exercise their franchise defying morning chill.
State Election Commission sources said, there is no report of any untoward incident so far in connection with the election. Polling will end at 4 pm in the afternoon. For the election of 279 councilors, ruling Congress has fielded its candidates in 199 seats and BJP in 181 seats. Counting of votes will be held on the 15th of this month.
