Agartala, April 03, 2020: As nation is waging a war against Coronavirus, social media is usually abuzz with fake and wrong information relating to Covid19. The Supreme Court issued a directive to stop circulation of fake news and rumours on coronavirus, said secretary of State Information Department of Tripura, Shailendra Singh, IFS during a meeting today. The meeting was convened to apprise media persons regarding compliance of Judgment of the Supreme Court on Covid19.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh solicited reporter’s help in disseminating accurate information to stop the Corona virus in Tripura to the last man of the society. Hailing role of Tripura media on Covid19 issue, Singh expressed hope that good works by all the media would continue in coming days also. Singh said journalists working in Tripura already are already acting in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive. He acknowledged that in sight of present situation it’s pertinent to believe government media agencies for dissemination of data .
On the occasion, senior journalist Dibakar Debnath, editor of Tripurainfo-dot-com, Jayanta Debnath, Journalist of Syandan newspaper Abhishek Dey, Debashish Majumdar and other media persons shared their views on the way to prevent of spreading fake information and news in Social media, specially Facebook.
Almost everyone recommended launching social media monitoring cells on behalf of the police also because the information department (ICA) to stop spread of fake news and knowledge in social media. Moreover, the legal provisions for punishment for crime like fake news dissemination needed to be strictly enforced, they said.

After the meeting, the knowledge secretary said government will certainly review the suggestions given by the journalists to stop the rumours on social media and said that action would be taken very soon.
Besides, consistent with the journalists demands, information about Corona virus related news updates are often conveyed to journalists more quickly and the knowledge Department will take some steps quickly, Secretary, ICA said. Director, ICA Ratan Biswas was also present in this consultation meeting on Coronavirus today.
