April 22, 2018: The 5-day long 22nd Party Congress of CPIM concluded at Hyderabad today and Sitaram Yechury was ‘unanimously’ re-elected as Party’s general secretary for another three years. A new Central Committee with 20-new members was also announced. However, names of 19 candidates were announced while one left vacant. Two leaders from the State were inducted into the new Central Committee.
Party sources said, MP Jitendra Choudhury and MLA Tapan Chakraborty had made entry into the Central Committee. Earlier, there were total seven members in the Central Committee from Tripura, however with the death of Khagen Das, the number came down to six. All the six members – Bijan Dhar, Badal Choudhury, Goutam Das, Rama Das and Aghore Debbarma – retained their places in the Committee. With the inclusion of Chaudhury and Chakraborty, representation from Tripura in the CPIM Central Committee has increased to eight.
