July 22, 2018: After threadbare discussions and deliberations, Inter-Ministerial Committee on “North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme” (NESIDS) under the Ministry of DoNER has approved three projects for Tripura.
A meeting of the Inter-Ministerial committee of DoNER was held on Friday last. The Committee considered infrastructure schemes of the North Eastern States to be implemented under the funds of DoNER and approved all the three schemes in principle.
Implementation of the schemes will commence once the DPRs are submitted for financial sanction.
The three Schemes are – construction of Rain Water Reservoir on Upper Catchment area of the River Howra near Champaknagar, construction of Rain Water Reservoir on Champacherra near Champaibari including revival of Katakhal Drain at total Rs. 179.85 crore and construction of 132 KV Sub-station at Kanchanpur along with 132 KV Single Circuit Transmission Line from Kanchanpur with associated civil work at North Tripura District (cost Rs. 34.06 crores).
After extension of the benefit of irrigation, the cropping intensity in that area can be increased to 220% after construction of these two dams.
The scheme for construction of water reservoir on the catchment area of the river Howrah and Champacherra has been taken up with the objective of flood control.
The scheme would also address the problem of water supply for Agartala city and provide a long term solution for the same. It is also proposed to setup water sports and other activities based on the Water Reservoir for tourism facilities in the future.
Moreover drinking water supply to Agartala city will also be assured besides mitigation of severe flood problem. The tourism will get a big boost by creating two huge water bodies surrounded by undiluted beauty of nature.
The Power Department scheme is for construction of 132 KV Sub-station at Kanchanpur and 132 KV Transmission Line from Kanchanpur to Vanghnun a North Tripura District.
The Power department scheme will ensure stable and regular power supply to Kanchanpur sub division town and also stabilize power availability in the Jampui Hill Region which is an important tourism destination as well.
