8th GST Day: Tripura's Tax Revenue Soars Despite No New Levies, says State Finance Minister

The Tripura government celebrated the 8th GST Day at Rabindra Bhavan on [date], highlighting a rise in tax collection despite no additional levies in the past six years.

Finance Minister Pranjit Singha Roy inaugurated the event, emphasizing collaboration between the government and taxpayers as the key to the state's growing revenue. He stated that various tax sources generated over Rs 3,000 crore in the 2022-23 financial year.

Recognition for Top Contributors:

The ceremony acknowledged outstanding contributions. Business establishments with the highest tax payments in the previous year were felicitated by the Finance Minister and other dignitaries. Additionally, agents who achieved exceptional performance in the small savings scheme received recognition.

Tripura-Tax-Revenue-GST-DayShudrajit Chowdhury, son of an agent from the Halhali Small Savings Scheme, received special recognition for securing the top position in the Tripura Board of Secondary Education's Higher Secondary Examination.

Focus on Infrastructure Development:

Minister Roy further emphasized the critical role of communication infrastructure in fostering regional development. He commended the significant improvements made in the North East region, including Tripura, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership since 2014.

Improved Connectivity and Economic Opportunities:

Currently, Tripura boasts 19 operational train routes and a significantly enhanced air service network. Roy also highlighted the upcoming Maitri Bridge project, which will provide expedited access to the Chittagong port in Bangladesh through a shorter route. This initiative is expected to significantly boost trade and economic growth for the state.

Looking Forward, Higher GST Revenue Expected:

In his address, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy reported that Tripura generated approximately Rs 1,899 crore in GST revenue during the 2022-23 financial year. He expressed optimism for a 15% increase in GST collection over the next five years.

In the event, CGST Commissioner T V Ravi, Additional Secretary of Finance Department Akinchan Sarkar, and numerous taxpayers and small savings scheme agents from across Tripura took part in today’s event.
