Agartala, April 25, 2025: In a landmark development for sports administration in Tripura, the Tripura Olympic Association (TOA) has been officially re-established and recognized by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) after a prolonged hiatus. With the association’s revival, the stage is now set for democratic elections to form a fully functional executive committee.
The Indian Olympic Association’s Ad Hoc Committee, which has been overseeing the TOA’s restructuring, has announced a detailed schedule for the upcoming election. As per the directive, the entire electoral process must be completed within the next 15 days, in line with the TOA constitution and IOA guidelines.
Election to Form 2025–2029 Committee of Tripura Olympic Association (TOA)
To ensure a transparent and fair election, a Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer of appropriate stature have already been appointed. They will supervise the election process for the term 2025–2029, which includes selecting office bearers and executive committee members.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on Friday afternoon at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala, following an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) convened by the IOA’s Ad Hoc Committee.
Strong Participation at EGM
The EGM witnessed the participation of representatives from 24 state-level sports associations, highlighting the unified effort to reinvigorate sports governance in the state. Also in attendance were official observers from the Tripura Sports Council and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, both of which have formally endorsed the reconstituted TOA as the apex sports body in Tripura.
Significantly, the TOA’s constitution, which is registered under the Registrar of Societies, has been officially accepted as valid by the IOA.

Emotional Tribute Before Meeting
Before the meeting commenced, attendees observed a two-minute silence to honor the victims of a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed the lives of several tourists. This somber moment reflected the gathering’s solidarity and national spirit beyond the realm of sports.
TOA Expresses Gratitude to IOA and Stakeholders
At the conclusion of the session, TOA’s acting president, Dronacharya awardee Bishweshwar Nandi, and Chairman Ratan Saha expressed heartfelt gratitude to IOA President Dr. P.T. Usha, the members of the Ad Hoc Committee, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support and commitment to the cause of sports in Tripura.
The reconstitution of the TOA marks a new beginning for the state’s sporting ecosystem, with hopes of improved infrastructure, governance, and participation across disciplines. Once elections are concluded, the newly formed TOA is expected to play a crucial role in preparing athletes for national and international platforms.
