Alleged TIPRA Motha activists create chaos in Mungiyakami block

A group of miscreants allegedly supporters of Pradyot Kishore Debbarman led Tipra Motha on Monday launched a planned attack on the Mungiakami block office under Khowai district in Tripura with the intentions to stall the smooth functioning of the village council.

Notably, after TIPRA Motha won the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls on April 10 last, violence against ruling BJP and its ally, IPFT rattled normalcy in hill areas. Now, it appears that TIPRA Motha, instead of trying to bring peace, is more interested to interfere and create trouble in the functioning of Village Councils.

Today’s attack also indicated that Tipra Motha now seemed to have decided to forcefully wrest power in the village councils.

According locals sources, a gang of Tipra Motha activists stormed inside the office room of the elected chairman and the vice-chairman of Mungiakami and cordoned off the area asking common people to come back in the Office after Motha representatives take charge of the office. The miscreants also asked the incumbent chairman and vice-chairman to replace the photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM Biplab Kumar Deb and Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varman.

According to the vice-chairman the violent gang asked them to fix pictures of Pradyot Kishore Debbarman as ‘he is the only boss’.

Accusing TIPRA motha of misusing the power, BJP vice-chairman Bikash Debbarma of Mungiakami block said, “They have categorically pointed out that it was the first warning. They want control over each and every office of the TTAADC regions running under the government of Tripura. My chairman and I were abused and harassed. We had been forced to leave our offices in the face of the threats”.

Chairman Sunil Debbarma, on the other hand, said, “In the name of Thansa (that stands for unity), people are now terrified. Unruly elements have turned the meaning of the word. Sunil Debbarma alleged that CPM supporters under the veil of TIPRA Motha were involved in chaos.

Pradyot Kishore Debbarman called for unity but as to what message they were giving through such activities only best known to them. We shall inform the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister regarding such acts of intimidation and seek their intervention to restore peace and normalcy”.
