Border Haat: Emotional cordiality enhancing bi-lateral trade, says Tripura CM

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb laid foundation stone of the third Border Haat, Kamalpur-Kurmaghat border haat between India and Bangladesh at Kamalpur on Thursday. Commerce Minister of Bangladesh, Tipu Munshi also attended the programme today.  

 

“The cultural and emotional cordiality between the two countries is playing a leading role in expanding the ambit of the trading activities”, Deb said in his speech.

 

Industries and Commerce Minister of Tripura Manoj Kanti Deb, Bangladesh MP Md. Abdus Shahid, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh - Vikram Doraiswami, TIDC chairman Tinku Roy and other dignitaries were present in the foundation stone laying ceremony.

 

Spread over 6.85 kani land, this Border Haat would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.30 crore. The border haat would function on every Tuesday from 11 am to 2 pm.


The Chief Minister thanked the Prime Ministers of both the countries and said, with the sincere efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, a noticeable progress came in the field of trade.

 

Deb also recalled the role of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahaman and paid tributes to the Bangabandhu.

 

Third-Border-haat-TripuraThe Chief Minister said that eight Border Haats were proposed to be set up in Tripura. Among those haats, two border haats are already functioning while foundation stone was laid for the third one, Kamalpur-Kurmaghat haat, at Marachhara in Kamalpur today and foundation stone for another Border Haat at Raghna border in North Tripura would be laid very soon.

 

Deb said international waterway via Bangladesh, Special Economic Zone, Maitri Setu and Agartala- Akhuara rail link are opening new possibilities in terms of connectivity and trade between the two countries. On top of these facilities, cultural and emotional relations will further strengthen ties between India and Bangladesh.

  

The Chief Minister said, the direct flight service between Agartala and Delhi would not only benefit the people of Tripura but the Bangladesh citizens, who are visiting the state for healthcare, tourism and other purposes, would also be benefitted.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Tipu Munsi recalled the contributions of India, particularly Tripura, during the 1971 Liberation War.

 

The Bangladesh minister exuded confidence that the proposed Border Haat would benefit the citizens of both the countries and it would harness the ties and trade between India and Bangladesh.

 

In a social media post, Deb wrote the Border Haat would accommodate 100 vendors on each side.
