Chairman of Tripura Cong Minority Cell framed, alleges State Cong ex-chief

Former Tripura Pradesh Congress President Birajit Sinha on Monday rubbished all the charges against congress leader Jaidul Hossain and said that he was framed in the case as a part of a well-orchestrated conspiracy to safeguard the goons sheltered by the BJP party. The veteran Congress leader made this remark while he went to the central correctional home to meet Jaidul Hossain who had been awarded jail custody. The Congress leader also accused the police of playing an inactive role and lashed out at the ruling party for attributing the attack on TPCC president on the “lobbyism” of the party.

Jaidul, the sitting chairman of the minority cell of the Congress party, believed to be a close acolyte of the ex-president Sinha and was appointed in the post during his term in office. Pijush Biswas succeeded Sinha followed by the short term of Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and since then Birajit Sinha had been seen at odds with the sitting Congress president and very rarely these two leaders of the Congress party were seen together.

Speaking on the sidelines of his visit, Sinha said, “The audio record with his (Jaidul’s) image was circulated heavily in the social media platforms after the attack and it had been placed as evidence against him. But, nowhere in the audio was he found speaking about the attack. The word treatment that he had used in the audio could be interpreted in different ways and his way of interaction did not mean anything regarding the attack”.

Sinha alleged that Biswas despite being warned of imminent problems and law and order situation, went there and in his FIR he had mentioned that more than 100 BJP miscreants had attacked him.

“The police warned him of the law and order situation in the place but despite that he went there. His vehicle was attacked as anticipated by the police and in his FIR he had specifically mentioned that BJP miscreants attacked him. The police, rather than investigating the given details, started framing charges against Congress workers going in the lines of a press statement of a spokesperson of the ruling party”, Sinha alleged.

Sinha while replying to a query regarding the conspicuous silence maintained by the TPCC on the issue said that the party should officially issue a statement. Along with Sinha, Congress leader Prasanta Sen Chowdhury and other minority cell leaders went to central jail. According to the leaders, the Congress minority cell would gather in front of police headquarters to press for his release.
