As the state gears up for the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections scheduled to be held on August 8, authorities have taken comprehensive measures to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process. Approximately 10,000 security personnel, including 30 companies of central forces, will be deployed across the state to maintain law and order.
A total of 2,219 polling stations have been set up statewide. These include 950 normal polling stations, 1,146 sensitive polling stations, and 123 highly sensitive polling stations. According to police headquarters, Central forces will be strategically positioned in the sensitive areas to ensure the safety and security of voters and the integrity of the election process.
Asit Kumar Das, Secretary of the State Election Commission, provided updates on the preparations. He mentioned that the election duty (ED) voting for the three-tier panchayat elections was successfully completed on Sunday. Out of the 9,504 registered ED voters, 8,044 cast their votes.
Meantime, all necessary preparations have been finalized to ensure the elections are conducted freely and peacefully on August 8. While the Political parties are making last minute whirlwind campaign to woo the voters, administration is also busy in making the decks ready for the elections.
While preparations are underway across the State, during a press conference held at the District Magistrate’s office in Kailashahar, Unakoti District Election Officer and District Magistrate Dilip Kumar Chakma shared detailed insights into the district’s readiness.
Chakma reported that there are 128,737 registered voters in Unakoti district. To facilitate the election process, 36 sector officers have been appointed, ensuring that every aspect of the election is meticulously managed. He emphasized the importance of these elections and the collective effort being made to uphold democratic values.
