G20 Seminar: Jishnu pitches on Dharmik approach to Education and Ecology for sustainable development

Development cannot be sustainable without Dharma and therefore, a Dharmic approach to education and ecology is the need of the hour for attaining sustainable development, said former Deputy Chief Minister as well as the ex-Science and Technology Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Dev Varma.

He was speaking at a G20 seminar on ethics, education and ecology held here in a private hotel at Agartala on Tuesday (April 18). Chinmaya Mission organized the seminar. Prof. Dr. Jagadish Ganachoudhury, Ramakrishna Math and Mission Secretary Swami Shuvokarananda, Prof. Dr. Satyadeo Poddar and others were present in today’s daylong event.

The seminar focused on the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world is one family based on Ethics, Education and Ecology.

Pitching for Dharmik approach, Dev Varma said, “It teaches interdependency of Man and Nature”.

In his speech, he highlighted and explained the ‘One World, One Family’ idea saying that people with low-caliber minds focus on fulfilling their desires, and aspirations while a liberal-minded person thinks about global welfare.

In this connection Dev Varma also said, the geo-political borders that were drawn are slowly fading away. After the Covid Pandemic, once again the world has come together for the environment and education as issues like Climate change and carbon footprints affect all of us.

India has always said the oneness of humanity and the country is proud that India – the land from where the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam emerged is leading the G20 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presidency.

He urged the participants of the seminar to come out with some concrete suggestions.

Dev Varma reminded the participants that Tripura is ancient land ruled by one of the most ancient kingdoms in the world. He exuded confidence that the seminar would prove that Tripura can think nationally and globally.

“Let us send something substantial to G-20. Let us see that Tripura has made inputs to the G-20 and contributions to the factual statement of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, he commented.
