Chief Minister of Tripura Prof. Dr. Manik Saha reiterated the state government's determination to elevate Neermahal's status on the global tourism stage.
Speaking at an event during the closing ceremony of the traditional Neermahal Jal Utsav at Rajghat, Melaghar under Sepahijala district of Tripura on Sunday, Dr. Saha emphasized the enchanting appeal of Neermahal (Palace in Water) as a prime tourist destination in the state.
He highlighted the government's active involvement in renovating the interior rooms of Neermahal to make it more attractive to international visitors.
Dr. Saha further marked the occasion by inaugurating a long-distance swimming competition and a boating competition as part of the closing ceremony of the Neermahal Jal Utsav. To make the event even more vibrant, a cultural program was organized.
The traditional Neermahal Jal Utsav, a three-day celebration, commenced on October 6 and culminated with this memorable event. The swimming and boat race are part of the Jal Utsav in which locals - both males and females - take part. It is one of the noted sports activities that attracts enthusiastic participation from different places.
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Saha expressed his excitement at personally experiencing boating in the Rudra Sagar for the first time. He noted that the inclusion of long-distance swimming and boating competitions added a new dimension to the festival.
The Chief Minister affirmed the government's ongoing commitment to enhancing the appeal of the Neermahal Jal Utsav in the years to come. Their goal is to showcase the historical significance of Neermahal from the royal era on the global tourism map.
Notable attendees at the ceremony included MLAs Toffajal Hossain and Kishor Barman, Sepahijala District Magistrate Vishal Kumar, and others, all of whom shared in the enthusiasm for the future of Neermahal's tourism prospects.
