A wave of anger and grief swept across India as healthcare workers staged protests demanding justice and improved security following the horrific rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with healthcare professionals across the nation expressing their deep concern over the safety of their colleagues.
In a show of solidarity, healthcare workers at Dharmanagar District Hospital in Tripura observed a silent sit-in on Friday to condemn the heinous crime and demand swift action from authorities.
“We cannot continue to work in fear,” said a protesting doctor. “We are here to save lives, not to risk our own. We demand justice for our fallen colleague and a safe working environment for all healthcare workers.”
The protesters called for stringent punishment for the perpetrators and demanded increased security measures to protect healthcare workers on duty.
Protests in Agartala
The Sadar District Mahila Morcha of the ruling BJP organized a protest march in Agartala on Friday, condemning the rape and murder of a junior Doctor of the RG Kar in West Bengal. The protesters strongly criticized the West Bengal Chief Minister for the incident. The march started from the Party’s Pradesh office in Agartala and covered the entire city.
Also, four left-wing student organizations conducted a protest march in Agartala demanding strict punishment for those involved in the murder of a medical student in RG Kar Hospital and the killing of a teacher in Udaipur.
Protests in North Tripura
The North Tripura District Mahila Morcha organized a candlelight vigil, with participants wearing black bands, to protest the rape and murder of the female doctor working at RG Kar Medical College in West Bengal.
Rupali Adhikari, the president of the North Tripura District Mahila Morcha, expressed deep concern over the incident. She questioned how a medical student could be unsafe in a state where the Chief Minister is a woman. She demanded strict punishment for the culprits.
