Interlocutor to arrive in Tripura on May 8, says TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot

The interlocutor to for the Constitutional solutions of rights of Indigenous people of Tripura is all set to arrive in the State on May 8 next, said TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.

After the formation of BJP 2.0 in Tripura, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with the TMP chief and elected members of the TMP and assured them that an Interlocutor would be appointed to look into the issues raised by the TMP.

Speaking to the media upon his arrival in Agartala on Friday (May 5), Pradyot Kishore said he had a talk with the Union Minister earlier in the day and he would be meeting with Amit Shah on May 10 next. Debbarma also announced that the Interlocutor will arrive in Tripura on May 8 next.

Debbarma today took a swipe at critics who rediculed his long absence from state politics, saying that "critics will become silent after the interlocutor appointed for constitutional solutions for tribal people of the state arrives on May 8 next".

The TMP chief also said he will meet with party leaders and tribal communities to discuss several issues, and things will gradually take shape.

Pradyot Kishore Debbarma also expressed his deep concerns over the ongoing violence in Manipur and said that he was willing to help students, including medical students stranded in Manipur, to return home.

Earlier, urging for peace in Manipur, He wrote on the social media, "Appeal for peace in Manipur! Violence amongst our own brothers and sisters will get us nowhere! All matters can be resolved when we sit across the table and discuss! Tripura has a long association with Manipur and the violence there deeply pains me!".

The TMP fought in the Assembly Election 2023 alone in Tripura with a demand for constitutional solutions of the indigenous people’s rights and problems. Earlier, the party advocated for ‘Greater Tipra Land’ which comprised of lands in Tripura, Assam, Mizoram and even Bangladesh.

TMP’s call for ‘Greater Tipra land’ evoked massive response among the indigenous people and riding on the support, the TMP captured Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

In the State Assembly Polls, the TMP bagged 13 seats out of total 60 seats and emerged as the second largest party in the State.
